Creating the body of your vase.
Open
a new square canvas with transparent background just a little bit bigger
than you want your vase to be. Open the tube tool and find your
tube that you created. Apply it onto a layer a number of times as
in the example on the right. Add another layer and move it under the original
layer. With the flood fill tool, fill that new layer with the color you
chose at the beginning for the main color of your vase. Then "merge
visible" the layers.
Next
go to Effects>geometric effects>circle and with the setting on "transparent"
click ok. This will turn your square shape to a circle.
Open
up your mesh warp tool again. I had mine set to 5 by 5. I pulled
in two nodes on each side of the center to make this shape. Hint:
You have to start with the node closest to the center, then pull in the next
closest node. Notice at the top of page one the examples that show
various shapes. Be creative and see what you come up with.
If it is too round it will roll off the table. [Just kidding.]
Make
the setting on the mesh as fine as possible and pull up the bottom of the
vase. Hint: You have to hold down the
shift key to move a whole row of nodes upward in order to do this.
I
wanted a ruffled top, so I pulled the top edge down at an angle in two places.
To finish off the vase, I made a false back edge for the top. And did a lot of work with the lighting and shading. I used Effects>Illumination effects>"lights" and also layers with blurred white, lighter red and darker red to make the shine and shadow. [But I often use "cut out" effect to do dark shading rather than "lights".]
